Discuss social worker working with foster children

Problem: You are a social worker working with foster children. You are making a home visit to Katie, age nine, and her foster family. Katie's foster parents, who have three college-age children of their own, are interested in adopting her. When you get to the home, only the mother, Bonnie, is present. After polite initial greetings, Bonnie states, "Katie doesn't like to read like the rest of us. I think she gets bored when she's not doing something active. Many times, I just don't know what to do with her."

Do you believe that self-disclosure would aid in this situation? Why or why not?
