I have been assigned to a newly created unit to the police department. My lieutenant and I had to give a statement to the newspaper regarding our new unit and what type of investigations we would be working. I was very nervous when having to give a statement. I did not want to speak to much or say the wrong thing. There was a lot of pressure on me when I had to answer the questions which were asked. I did not like giving press releases. I now know not to give people a hard time when I see someone mess up while speaking to the news. I felt there fear and anxiety and don't ever want to go through that again.

I can honestly say that this is something I have dealt with on a first hand basis, and it can become extremely touchy subject. I worked for a boss that was in a same sex relationship, and she felt that everyone no matter your thoughts should celebrate in LGBT community events. When I explained to her that we could not force our staff to do so, she said "if they work here that is what they do". With that being said, you must tread this area carefully and try as hard as possible to leave sexuality, religion, and anything that goes beyond the normal scope of employment at the office door. I feel that when you are forcing your employees to partake in events that make them feel uncomfortable you are going to far to include them and can cause an issue that need not be there. The employer can protect the rights just by not allowing the conversations to be had in the work place. This will stop the problem, and let them know it will not be tolerated. I beleive that when you are stopping or causing any disturbance to another employees workflow, that is when religious freedom goes to far. I personally do not mind if someone wants to pray, or give thanks but please make sure that my right not to practice religious freedom is not stepped on.
