Discuss religious practices that influence health care

Problem:

For this scenario, I selected the Muslim (Islamic) faith community, which may be unfamiliar to some providers yet represents a diverse and growing population with distinct cultural and religious practices that influence health care. When interviewing a 19-year-old Muslim female admitted with fevers, it is important to remember modesty, gender sensitivity, and religious beliefs. Many Muslim women prefer care from female providers, especially during physical examinations. Maintaining privacy, ensuring appropriate dress (such as allowing a hijab when possible), and asking permission before physical contact are essential. Additionally, prayer occurs five times daily, so being mindful of prayer times and providing a quiet space if feasible demonstrates respect. Dietary considerations, such as halal food and avoidance of pork or alcohol-based products, should also be assessed (Giger & Haddad, 2021). Communication should reflect a culturally responsive approach by using respectful, nonjudgmental language and avoiding assumptions. Open-ended questions such as, "Are there any cultural or religious practices we should consider in your care?" help build trust. Active listening and inclusion of family, if desired by the patient, are also important, as family involvement is often valued in Muslim cultures. If language barriers exist, a trained medical interpreter should be used rather than family members (Campinha-Bacote, 2019). Need Assignment Help?
