Problem: For safety professionals who have spent much of their professional lives practicing the traditional methods of safety, shifting gears to understand and implement a safety management system (SMS) can be a major change in thinking. In reading about some of the different types of SMSs and the components that make up an SMS, provide one example of how continuous process improvement through a model such as Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) can be used to improve outcomes. In your opinion, how does this focus on continuous improvement differ from the traditional approach to safety?
