Module 1 introduced you to the concept of ageism, a form of prejudice and discrimination against those held to be "old." Ageist attitudes can be held by anyone, including older persons. Use FSCJ's databases to find scholarly, peer-reviewed research on ageism among professionals who might provide services to an elder in some capacity. This could include counselors, lawyers, dentists, doctors, nurses, etc. Share with the class the findings from the research you read and discuss the potential consequences of ageism among those professionals. For instance, is it possible that ageism among professionals could affect the elder's self-concept, their health, financial-well-being, or even their life expectancy?
