Peer Interactions in Adolescence The amount of time that adolescents spend with their peers peaks in adolescence (Lam et al., 2014). In fact, high school students spend nearly 30 percent of their waking hours with peers during a typical week, not including the time they spend together in class. This is twice as much as they spend with parents and other adults (13 percent). This pattern of involvement with peers is particularly salient in West ern cultures (Brown, 2004; Brown & Braun, 2013).
