Use the following information to answer the questions listed above.

Hello, my name is LaMecia, and I am from Harlan, KY, a small town in the southeastern part of the state. I am 38 years old and have been married for 18 years. I have two sons, ages 15 and 16, who keep me busy with all of their sports activities and academic pursuits. These two young men are the very essence of joy and meaning in my life!

Reading and writing have been my favorite hobbies since childhood. Writing helps me express myself and find peace within myself. Over the course of my career, I have followed a diverse path. I have owned a salon and worked as a Master Cosmetologist for 15 years now. I have also worked as an Environmental Educator, teaching children about sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

I recently finished coaching my 15-year-old son's basketball team as the season came to a close, and I absolutely love working with such a talented group of young men. I have always been drawn to a career in counseling, and I am grateful for the numerous blessings, career opportunities, and educational experiences I have had.

I am excited to share that I have recently begun my position as a School-Based Mental Health Associate. I believe this role is a perfect match for my passion for mental health and child advocacy. I can't wait to contribute to the well-being of young people in my community and surrounding areas.

I have always felt confident in my career choices, and I am committed to earning a master's degree in counseling. This degree will help me improve my knowledge and skills so I can better support children and their families in therapy. Counseling is important because it empowers young people to face challenges and reach their potential.

I am currently taking Psychopathology, where I will study mental and emotional disorders that begin in childhood and can continue into adulthood. The course will cover age-specific diagnostic criteria from the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, as well as the causes of these disorders, cultural impacts, differential diagnosis, and treatment medications. I hope that in this class we get to go over Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).

In mental health, understanding my own past helps me connect with and support my clients. This mindset builds resilience and provides a growth mindset, both important for my career and education.

Self-compassion is essential in counseling. I always have to remind myself to be kind to myself during difficult times and accept that each choice was part of my journey. By accepting myself, I can better support my clients and create a positive therapeutic environment.

Accepting my past decisions is also important. When I face challenges at work or school, recognizing that I cannot control everything will help me concentrate on my current tasks instead of worrying about what could have been.

Living fully in the present is key for my work in mental health and my studies. This mindset helps me stay aware in my new role, ensuring that I provide good care to clients while learning new information. Staying present reduces anxiety during changes, making this transition smoother.

By focusing on my career growth and education, I am shaping my future. Making proactive choices helps me avoid regret and strengthens my success in both work and studies.

This motto fits well for starting a new career and academic path in counseling. It helps me rethink past experiences and highlights the importance of staying engaged in the present. By following this philosophy, I can develop resilience, empathy, and a commitment to growth, ultimately improving my effectiveness as a mental health associate and future counselor.
