One major advantage that I see project management software assisting in is that of organizing project tasks such as tracking project deliverables. Project managers can find it difficult to quickly find progress of a project in order to update stakeholders as they inquire. The software can be used to provide detail information such as project milestones and generate immediate reports to share with stakeholders.
According to Kloppenborg (2013), "Project managers and teams seek to develop strong working relationships with important stakeholders. This is an ongoing process throughout the life of the project."(Kloppenborg, 2013, p.123) Additionally the project management software application can assist project managers with forecasting due dates and developing work schedules.
This can be very beneficial in order to control overtime and or change priorities by placing resources where needed to keep the project on time. According to Katzel (1999), "Modeling, for example, among the key features of high-end systems, helps users determine what happens if an activity is delayed, a resource is changed, or other modification is made. Task-splitting functions let users interrupt tasks or interchange resources without affecting the end result of the project." (Katzel, 1999, p.56) On the contrary one disadvantage of project management software are challenges associated with learning the software features and navigating the interface of the program.
In addition to technical issues that could possibly arise with the program such as a corrupt file and or performance issues with the respective software program?
