1) Define midwifery scope of practice in the US.
2) Discuss limitations in midwifery scope of practice by;
a) jurisdiction, and
b) institutional restrictions on the practice (eg, these can include state laws and regulations, like mandatory physician relationships, limitations on prescriptive authority as well as facility prohibitions on admitting privileges, unit policies that mandate continuous fetal monitoring, etc.)
3) Consider how advocacy and evidence might be needed to resolve these limitations.
