I enjoyed reading your response to the material this week! I particularly appreciated your inclusion of narrative therapy as an intervention that you would use with this client. Placing importance on the client's ability to focus on their story and how they perceive certain aspects of it will be very helpful for you as a counselor to better understand how cultural aspects are influencing the client's presentation. I also felt that it was a good choice to include a referral for substance use treatment in addition to the two psychotherapies that you listed earlier. You identified that narrative therapy has been shown to be effective in understanding the root causes of a clients substance abuse, but then adding AODA treatment in addition would allow specific treatment to focus on the substance use issues.
