Read, review and study Marquis & Huston chapters 22 & 23 in your text for QI information. You must cite from your text for this paper but use no more than one direct quote.
Review material in the week nine module regarding finding QI/Safety information in government resources.
Select a QI/Safety issue that you know your organization is focused on - discuss with instructor if you have any questions.
Use the open-ended interview questions that you prepared to elicit information to help you understand the quality improvement process of the organization (and/ or review material in the module on QI).
Reflect on your interview and/or direct experience regarding the quality improvement initiative in your healthcare organization. Use the following headings to organize your paper (each section ½ - 1 page):
Independently research the QI issue. Find at least three sources including:
At least one review article (such as a literature review, meta-analysis, or systematic review)
At least one organizational or government website such as AHRQ
Quality Improvement Issue.
Based on the interview with a leader (or review of material), describe a recent quality improvement initiative of the organization, such as infections, readmissions, or falls that your organization is addressing. Describe the scope of the issue (use statistics to discuss the number or percent of people it effects, costs, burden on staff, etc)
Implementation
Summarize the best practice recommendations regarding the issue based on the reviewed research.
Compare the best practice to the current practice your organization takes or is planning.
Evaluation
Summarize the approach and priorities needed to take the best practice action and make a change.
If applicable - Reflect on your direct clinical experience and assessment regarding the outcome of a quality improvement initiative in your healthcare organization and evaluate how the QI initiative affects patent or provider outcomes. OR - discuss how the QI initiative could be evaluated and reassessed based on best practice recommendations for the resources. Describe any budget-related concerns that may arise because of the QI issue.
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
