Discuss how the portrayal may be consistent with or conflict

Problem

Select one trait or characteristic of learners who are identified as gifted or talented that you are interested in exploring more. Do not select a broad category like academic achievement characteristics. Investigate and summarize what is known about this specific trait or characteristic and how it relates to identification of giftedness. Make a connection to the definitions used for learners with special gifts and talents. Using the textbook and going beyond the course material is needed for this information.

Address typical (reflect on information that you learned from Developmental Psychology and age appropriate skills) development of the given trait or characteristic. Consider the differences that could be identified between a typically developing child and a child who would be identified as having a special gift/talent. Describe and provide examples of what you may see inside and outside of the classroom.

Many times media portrayals of individuals with extraordinary abilities show those who are unable to fit into society. With the trait/characteristic that you selected, identify ways in which this portrayal is accurate or inaccurate. Discuss how the portrayal may be consistent with or conflict with the evidence from research in the textbook or other research sources.
