When you check MSDS for Lye, it says to flush with water for 10 minutes. Lye, when mixed with water, creates a large amount of heat. In the lab, we have used a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar to prevent a chemical burn. If you do this, is the initial blast of water going to damage the skin? Discuss how much heat is created that would transfer to the skin?
