Problem:
One institution that shaped the Hispanic American, Latino American, and Mexican American communities is employment. Many Hispanic and Latino Americans experience lower wages, limited resources for higher paying positions and even discrimination when it comes to the hiring process. For example, when we fill out job applications why do we have to pick a ethnicity box? I feel this is unnecessary and have always felt like this wasn't necessary. This has always stood out to me because employment can affect all areas of our lives such as health care, education, and even housing. When comparing the experiences faced by the communities I chose to compare with the African American community there are plenty similarities and differences. Both groups have experienced discrimination and unequal job opportunities due to systematic and historical barriers. While Hispanic and Latino communities experienced challenges with language barriers and immigration status.
