Part 1: Research essays can solve problems (practical style), express perspectives and feelings (romantic style), present scenes and ideas (classic style), and persuade readers to change what they think or do (oratorical style). These are all actions connected to ideas. Review your work and think about which concrete actions and ideas seem really important to you. Write a post that explains the action/s and idea/s that could be at the center of your essay and research process. Try to get more and more specific as you write. You could start with sentences like:
I want my research essay to express my generation's perspective on intimate relationships. (And then few more sentences about your generation's perspective).
I want my research essay to persuade students to take in-person courses instead of online courses. (And then a few more sentences about your reasoning).
Part 2: There are many ways that an essay can have significance, and writing a significant essay can involve many kinds of work. A few sentences about the significance that you want your essay to have and the work that you might need to do to make your essay significant. Then write a few more sentences that present a more refined version of your essay's action and idea. You could have sentences like these:
My expression about my generation's perspective is significant because, by understanding our perspective better, we might be able to change it (and, it just feels good to express this perspective and make sure that other generation's see things our way). The work that I will need to do might include journaling a lot of my own thoughts, asking my friends what they think, and finding movies or TV shows that help me convey my perspective.
