Problem: Respond to statement below:
I picked Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and the cognitive model for this discussion. The cognitive model revolves around how people think in order to explain GAD. People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) may worry unnecessarily and always about everyday things. Even when there is not much proof that something bad will happen, they could anticipate negative results. These thought patterns may worsen anxiety and make it harder for a person to feel at ease or in control (Comer & Comer, 2025).
I decided to use the cognitive behavioral model to explain the development and ongoing existence of anxiety disorders. This approach suggests that anxiety can be brought on by inappropriate beliefs like catastrophic thinking. Then, people might steer clear of uncomfortable circumstances. Avoiding strengthens the perception that the situation is threatening, even though it may offer temporary relief. Consequently, anxiety persists and may worsen over time.
Of the two models, I believe the cognitive behavioral model best aligns with my perspective on anxiety. I think thoughts, behaviors, and experiences influence one another and play an important role in how anxiety develops. When individuals learn healthier ways of thinking and responding to stressful situations, they can better manage their symptoms and improve their overall well-being (Comer & Comer, 2025).
