Problem: Clinically write and shorten
During our family session we changed our original plan to focus on processing this incident that transpired while in school. We were able to do a role-play where Sophia was asked to change the setting of where she lives, and using this same incident yet the setting would be while living with Ms. Robin. Sophia was prompted to start the discussion as if she were discussing with Robin her reasons for getting in trouble while in school. Sophia did well with directing the conversation to Ms. Robin and Ms. Robin did well with encouraging Sophia to open up regarding what transpired. Ms. Robin Prompted sophia for more information while also considering her feelings and also validating her frustrations, she also attempted to view the situation in how Sophia perceived things to take place. Sophia was visibly more comfortable, Sophia's presentation and mood shifted significantly when she was faced with information that was provided by Ms. Delilah which eventually uncovered that Sophia was not being truthful. Sophia admitted to purchasing the cologne which was said to only be around $15.00, Sophia initially did not admit that she was being disrespectful instead tried to place blame on her teacher and principal for not "doing their jobs" by intervening and stopping this young man from speaking to her in this way. When asked how did she expect the school personnel to respond she couldn't identify ways in which they could have responded differently. Sophia continued to become visibly upset, without taking accountability for her actions. She started to disengage from the session and started to cry which appeared to be out of frustration. Sophia was praised for remaining calm, and I continued to verbally deescalate and encourage her to reengage in the session. Sophia was offered a reset, as well as walk to which she declined. After several minutes of putting her held down, she again was praised for not responding in a negative why which usually involves verbal aggression instead just remaining quiet. After being encouraged by both Robin and myself she began to open up a little and was back engaged. Challenging her in this moment proved to be beneficial as we were able to see that she has the ability to regulate her emotions, the accountability part is where there is a need for continued work. Session ended well, Sophia was able to positively end the session, regroup to grab her belongings at the cottage and head to Ms. Robins for her overnight. On Saturday Sophia reached out to touch base and let me know that she was enjoying her visit with Ms. Robin they were at K1 Speedway and were enjoing go karting, Sophia returned back to the program Saturday night with no issues to report.
On Sunday Sophia struggled in the cottage with some negative peer interactions, Sophia engaged in bullying behaviors of a specific youth who she continues to name call and target. This particular youth requested to speak to staff privately to report a conversation that she heard Sophia having with another youth. This youth reported overhearing Sophia talk about AWOL'ing with another peer after her birthday, she also reported that Sophia is interested in a female peer in the home. Sophia then asked to speak with the staff and then began to speak out loudly in front of the peers that she knows what this youth was reporting. Sophia then restated everything that the peer reported, she then recanted the story by saying that she was just joking about AWOL'ing and only saying that because she knew the peer was listening. Throughout the shift Sophia needed redirection as she continued to call this peer a "rat" and a "snitch". She was verbalizing derogatory remarks to the peer throughout the shift calling her names like "autistic", "special" and repeatedly calling her a "nosey bitch". Despite staffs attempt to redirect Sophia she continued to engage throughout the shift in what appeared to be an attempt to purposely trigger her peer. During second shift Sophia was able to regroup after several instances of disrespect towards staff and her peers.
Today 02/23 Sophia refused her hygiene, while coming downstairs for daily routine Sophia was seen to have a bag that included clothing and other items. When questioned by staff why she had the bag she refused to respond, Staff confiscated the bag. A short while later Sophia and a peer ran out the front door which we assumed to be an attempt to AWOL. Staff was able to get Sophia to reenter the home, in which again she engaged in verbal aggression. Sophia then reported that she was just playing, SF was placed on 1;1 supervision to ensure her safety.
I will check in with Sophia tomorrow for session, and process this weekends events I will keep everyone posted. I didn't include the school on this email as this information is relelvant to her treatment here at Legacy.
