Assignment Problem:
Write a 1000-1500 word essay on one of the topics provided in class. Though this is not a formal research paper, you do need one book reference and one internet resource that isn't Wikipedia or some dude's random blog.
Topics:
Problem 1: Les Automatistes and Painters Eleven rebelled against mainstream society and ushered in a new form of painting in Canada. Discuss.
Problem 2: Female artists made a larger impact on art in Canada than the history books tell us. Explain. Choose ONE or TWO artists to discuss.
Problem 3: Experimental and conceptual art in Canada tackled topics that ranged from humorous (poking fun at corporations) to serious (AIDS epidemic). Discuss.
Problem 4: The Vancouver School of Photography (Ken Wall, Stan Douglas, Rodney Graham etc) brought narrative in their discipline to a new level. Explain.
