Discuss ever-evolving conception or understanding of race

Problem

A. Discuss the ever-evolving conception or understanding of race in society. Stated differently, discuss how race as a construct has changed over time. Then, critically evaluate race as both a biological construct and a socio-political construct. Specifically, explain what these different conceptions and/or understandings of race mean and how they have impacted race relations, life outcomes and opportunities, and society at large.

B. Throughout American history, there has been this trade-off whereby members of socially valued groups have benefited from institutionalized and systemic forms of racism and discrimination, often at the expense of other marginalized groups. Underlining this trade-off are racial narratives that reinforce the supremacy of one group and the inferior, second-class status of other groups. Argue whether you agree with this statement that racial narratives have created a social landscape whereby, regardless of time and place, one racial group maintains power and dominance at the expense of other racial groups. Additionally, discuss whether this is an inevitable aspect of our society. If so, provide a justification or reason using course materials. If not, describe how this can be alleviated or addressed.
