Discuss - culture and beliefs cannot stand the test of time

Assignment task:

Self-defense in Islam is not only a right but in a way, a requirement. Protecting yourself and your honor, mind, wealth, and religion is an essential expectation for worshippers. This protection is both from yourself and others as well. You are not permitted to consume anything that would bring you harm, and are not permitted to allow someone else to bring you harm.

Dying while protecting oneself would make them a Martyr in the eyes of the faith. The only exception is if they decide the nature of the threat is minimal and they forgo protecting themselves for the sake of Allah. This too, would yield a reward from the faith but even that has a limitation to it in that they cannot set a precedent that allows more harm to come to them or others.

This is an important tool for religion because it forces the individual to take protection for themselves, without relying on a god to intervene. Christianity has a similar ideation that god only helps those who help themselves. Culture and beliefs cannot stand the test of time if those who indulge in them aren't willing to defend themselves and their beliefs. This right is decided by Allah, but also gives room for the individual to take inventory of their situation and act accordingly.
