I would choose a closed, 8-week cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group for adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). A closed group will allow members to build trust, cohesion, and continuity, which is critical for exploring anxiety-provoking thoughts and behaviors. (Yalom & Leszcz, 2020). The criteria would include adult's ages 18-65, primary diagnosis of GAD, stable on their medications, and willing to commit to weekly group sessions. This group will target skill-building, such as cognitive restructuring and relaxation techniques. To minimize disruptions and promote consistency for members who are entering mid-treatment, I would add that no new members are allowed after treatment begins.
