Inflammation is another important innate defense mechanism. During inflammation, blood vessels dilate and increase permeability, allowing immune cells to move into damaged tissue. Fever also helps the body fight infection by creating an environment less favorable for bacterial growth. In nursing practice, understanding innate immunity is important because nurses monitor patients for signs of inflammation, fever, and infection while providing interventions to support recovery and prevent complications.
