Discuss black woman role in the community of slaves

Problem:

In "Reflections on the Black Woman's Role in the Community of Slaves" by Angela Davis, she represents the living quarters of enslaved peoples and the spaces of their domestic life as the only opportunities for enslaved people, especially women, "to assert the modicum of freedom they still retained" (Davis 436). Using at least one quote from the essay (probably from pages 436-437), please explain what Davis is saying here and how she suggests that enslaved Black women used these spaces to retain their humanity, and to defend the humanity of their communities, amidst the horrors of chattel slavery. As you will see, domestic spaces will play an especially important role in the novel Kindred, which we will begin reading next week.
