Discuss behaviors while withholding reinforcement

Problem: Make a comment about your classmate's post: I chose DRA because it focuses on reinforcing alternative, appropriate behaviors while withholding reinforcement for problem behaviors. It is particularly relevant to my plan because I'm aiming to decrease specific problem behaviors by reinforcing alternative behaviors that serve the same function. One concern I have is ensuring that the alternative behavior I am reinforcing is truly functional and preferred by the individual. There is a risk that if the alternative behavior is not reinforced enough or does not adequately serve the same function as the problem behavior, the intervention might not be effective. Article one, "DRA contingencies promote improved tolerance to delayed reinforcement during FCT compared to DRO and fixed-time schedules," by Melissa A. Drifke, Jeffrey H. Tiger, and Madelynn A. Lillie. This study compares different reinforcement schedules following Functional Communication Training (FCT) and suggests that DRA promotes better tolerance to delayed reinforcement compared to other schedules. Article two is "Efficiency and Preference for Alternative Activities During Schedule Thinning with Functional Communication Training" by Christina A. Simmons and Giovanna L. Salvatore. This study demonstrates how incorporating alternative reinforcers during schedule thinning can increase efficiency and preference for individuals.
