Problem: There are three different approaches or communication in the deaf community. Theres the oralism approach which focuses on the speech side of things. Taking on speaking without hearing yourself and lip reading of other people who are hearing. Another way of communication is the bilingual and BI culturalized side. This approach tales ASL as the primary language and growing up in the culture then taking on English as a second language. Finally, the total communication style, this used a mix of both methods signing and speaking and using non sign gestures. If I were deaf, I would probably choose the Bi-Bi approach since you would still get to communicate with people who aren't deaf and get to be a part of a community and make new friends that I can communicate with through signing. I like learning to sign and being able to communicate in my own way I also know some people that are going deaf slowly and it would be so nice to relate and communicate with them. Do you agree?
