Discuss antimicrobial treatment-infection control measures

Assignment task: Infection Control Related Sentinel Events

Instructions:

For this activity, complete the following steps adapting for the option chosen to show mastery:

A number of patients die each year from an acquired infection in a healthcare setting.  These infections are referred to as Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs).  Any infection that is not adequately controlled can lead to a sentinel event.

Search the literature or another infection-related website for a sentinel event caused by an epidemiologically significant organism.

Summarize the sentinel event.

Use the NHSN Excel Sheet listed in the Resources and find the specific Healthcare associated data related to your state of practice/residence. Choose one HAI of significance and summarize the information from the data sheet.

A graphic to depict the Epidemiological Triangle (Host, Agent and Environment) to highlight the elements of the HAI.

Discuss relevance of laboratory reports, antimicrobial treatment and infection control measures for the HAI you chose.
