Discuss an example of a nonparametric test

Discussion:

Nonparametric tests are often used in place of their parametric counterparts when the distributional assumption, usually the normal distribution assumption, is questionable AND the sample size is small, say less than 30. When the sample size is large, the central limit theorem kicks in and usually it is OK to use a parametric test even if the normal distribution assumption is questionable.

Give me an example of a nonparametric test that is used for reasons other than the underlying distributional assumptions?
