Discuss an acid chloride prepared from adipicacid

In the present experiment we will be preparing Nylon 66. We will react 1,6-hexanediamine with an acid chloride prepared from adipicacid. The acid chloride called adipoyl chloride, will be prepared by reacting adipic acid with thionyl chloride. This creates by products HCl and SO2 gas.

Amounts: adipic acid: 500 mg
thionyl chloride: .75 ml
Adipoyl chloride: 622 mg
1,6-hexanediamine: 8ml
