Problem:
I need to respond to this classmate: Out of the seven core problems that Jannsson discusses in our textbook, improving affordability and access to social programs is an important core problem to focus on (Ph.D., et al., 2019). This can be due to the many barriers that can block people from accessing the services they need or want. People in the United States often encounter multiple barriers when trying to access services as they may not be able to afford them, may endure excessive wait times, or services may be geographically distant (Ph.D., et al., 2019, p.44). These issues are not just in one area of the United States but across the country causing many Americans to struggle with improving their daily life. Americans pay a great amount of out-of-pocket costs for health and human services. Many services require payments from their consumers, like childcare and preschool programs, many medical and mental health services, and postsecondary education programs (Ph.D., et al., 2019, p.45). Due to these services being costly people may avoid them as they cannot afford them to begin with, so there is no point in causing a debt or having a payment they cannot afford to pay back. Fees like deductibles and payment for services excluded from insurance can cause hardship for people with low and moderate incomes (Ph.D., et al., 2019, p.45). When people with low and moderate incomes must pay an additional bill, they have less money to pay rent, food, and other forms of care. Need Assignment Help?
