The government spends so much money and we sometimes do not even know where it is going. So much is wasted, an example would be the $8 million spent by the Department of Veterans Affairs to purchase solar panels that were never used and the $28 million spent on heavy equipment that was lost by the Department of Defense in Afghanistan. We must be more cautious when it comes down to it. Federal spending totaled $4.4 trillion in 2019. Nearly 60% of it was mandatory with it going towards social security, medicaid and medicare. As someone who works in the healthcare industry, so much money goes to it and there is so much fraud and abuse. So many people take advantage of government help and it affects us all. If the government were able to find out who is scamming them when it comes to Medicare, we could definitely cut costs by a big percentage. We must expand public education. I want to be a teacher in the future and that takes so much time, dedication, and patience. They are not paid enough, given enough benefits, or appreciated enough. Studies have shown time and time again how a teachers impact can truly determine a students success. With leading education, we can change the world, help more kids, provide more jobs and stability and lower the rates of academic withdrawal, depression, and poverty.
