Discussion: Treaty of Versailles

Historians have often argued that if Germany had been treated the same way after World War I as it was after World War II, then it is very likely that World War II may never have happened. In this exercise, you will be split into four distinct groups each representing one of the main victors of World War I: the United States, Great Britain, France, and the one country that was not allowed to participate in the treaty proceedings, Germany.

Problem:

You have chosen to represent Germany's side. You are to take on the character of your respective country (Germany in this instance)

The Germans believed that they had been stabbed in the back by their own government and felt the treaty was insult added to injury. In short, the Germans were probably the angriest of them all.

You are assigned this specific section of the Versailles Treaty to review with the intent of finding specific areas/wording that you think should have been done differently so as not to provide the catalyst for another war.
