Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn about the many teaching strategies that can be used to promote healthy eating (CHES Responsibility III). It will familiarize you with the resources to find teaching strategies/lesson plans and provide practice on the skills for implementing health programs.

You will select and sign up for a developmental age group (e.g., pregnancy or infancy; elementary, middle or high school; adults with a specific health issue; elderly;) and a priority healthy eating skill (e.g., my plate, serving sizes, food labels, 5-a-day, etc.). Find a lesson plan/teaching technique for the population/topic and develop a PPT

The PPT presentation must contain the following slides:

1) Your name, date, population and topic selected;

2) lesson plan reference in APA format;

3) objectives of the lesson plan;

4) brief overview of entire lesson; and

5) the slides necessary for the teaching activity including background information/content on the healthy eating skill (e.g., you need to make sure the audience has the needed background information that will allow them to practice the skill correctly; do not assume your peers know it just because of their major).

• The PPT must include detailed notes/speaking points in the notes section of each slide for all content and activities that will be presented (e.g., enough information is provided for anyone to pick up the lesson and present it; written as it will be spoken). Basically, put the directions found in the lesson plan/teaching technique in the notes section, and key words/phrases, images on the actual PPT slide.
