Why is the topic so important?
Over 2 million people are abused in the United States each year. They are abused physically, emotionally, psychologically and sexually. Domestic violence and its consequences cost the nation millions of dollars every year in medical bills, counseling and other costs. Far more devastating than the actual financial cost is the continuing cycle of violence that it breeds. Statistics show that children who witness or experience domestic violence are more apt to demonstrate those same behaviors as teens and adults.
