For this assignment, I want you to take what you have learned about social structure theories, and apply it to the following cases. We are going to compare and contrast two municipalities with identical poverty rates of 23.5% However, they are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of overall crime. The areas for comparison are Weld County, Colorado, and the city of Cincinatti, Ohio. Obviously, these two areas have significantly different levels of population. Using the theories from Chapter, and reviewing the following links, attempt to make a rational argument as to why the crime rates in these two areas are so divergent, even though they share similar income disparities. Does poverty always relate to higher crime rates? If not, what else does? Make sure to take into account social services, education, community, race and ethnic issues.
