Problem: If a sixty five year old man who suffered a cerebrovascular accident. In the first few days following the stroke he was paralysed on his left side. His problems with movement resolved and within a couple of months he was able to walk and use his left arm almost as well as before. His language production and comprehension did not seem to be affected by the stroke. He was sent home from hospital and given appropriate advice and medication with the aim of avoiding another repeat stroke. Some weeks later his wife contacted the neurologist at the hospital to say that he keeps bumping into objects around the house. He also often failed to notice people coming into the room and had nearly been run over whilst crossing the road. She also says that he often leaves half the food on his plate at meals times and then complains that he is still hungry. However, he himself seems to be unaware of suffering any visual problems.
