Problem:
This week, I learned and developed a clearer understanding of three key concepts related to globalization and intercultural communication: cultural globalization, power and inequality in global interactions, and stereotype threat. Cultural globalization refers to how increased global connections influence people's values, identities, and ways of communicating. Rather than creating one single global culture, it often results in a mix of cultures where people adapt, blend, and sometimes resist outside influences. This helped me understand that culture is not static and that diversity in workplaces is a natural outcome of globalization. The second concept, power and inequality in global interactions, focuses on how certain cultures-often Western ones-are treated as the norm or more dominant. This can result in non-dominant cultures being overlooked, misunderstood, or undervalued. Recognizing this helped me see how workplace practices, communication styles, and expectations may unintentionally favor some groups while marginalizing others. The third concept, stereotype threat, explains how people may feel pressure or anxiety about confirming negative stereotypes associated with their identity, which can affect confidence and performance. This concept made me more aware of how workplace environments and peer groups can unintentionally limit individuals by reinforcing narrow expectations. Need Assignment Help?
