I truly believe that it helps crime scene investigators out a lot with having such useful technology at their disposal. Information networks serves as an important component to the outcome of an investigation. As we continue to have major technological breakthroughs, the criminal are also continuing to find ways new to commit crimes without detection. Computer databases are imperative to the primary function of many crimes labs. Computers are essential to our everyday life and without them life can be extremely difficult especially for a crime screen investigator. Computers hold so much information that can help match suspects with DNA, fingerprints and plenty of other matching information. I can can that law enforcement has come an extremely long way when it comes to technology.
Paper records were standard back in the day as computers were not the revolutionary machines we use today. Computer databases just made information exchange and extraction much easier and makes the jobs of those working so diligently to solves crime scene investigations that much more simplistic.
For example, GPS technology has become useful all over the world but really useful in the law enforcement community. Police officers use GPS signals to find there call in locations faster and more efficiently. Cell phones also send off GPS signals for dispatchers to get to them, even if the caller does not provide an address. When it comes to information extraction, efficiency and fast information processing the use of information technologies is without a doubt a major asset to law enforcement.
