Question1. At a point in a loaded member, the stresses relative to an x, y, z coordinate system is given below

Compute the direction and magnitude of the maximum principal stress.   

Question2. A 100 by 150 mm rectangular plate is deformed as shown in the subsequent figure. All dimensions shown in the figure are in millimetres.  Find out at point Q: (a) the strain components εx , εy , and τxy , and (b) the principal strains and the direction of principal axes.
