The strictness and character of gun laws in America reflect the broad patterns of public opinion. Most Americans oppose bans on ownership of major categories of guns, but support a wide variety of moderate regulatory measures aimed at keeping guns away from criminals.
Conduct Internet and/or library research to further your knowledge on this topic. Then write a paper that addresses the following questions:
- What recent court cases have been decided on the right to keep and bear arms? Compare and contrast the rulings.
- What is defensive gun use?
- What are the differences in state and federal gun laws? How are these laws related to defensive gun use?
- What are some reasons that the federal government creates new gun control laws?
