1. This week, we have considered two religions which have strongly shaped the culture and traditions of the west and with which most Americans are at least passingly familiar - Judaism and Christianity. It's important, though, that even with ideas we think we know, that we not assume we have the whole picture. We must also take care not to conflate our own convictions with the wider ways the beliefs and traditions of a religion might be understood and/or practiced.

For your Unit 4 Complete assignment, you should choose one of the two questions below and write a narrative analysis essay (minimum 1000 words) in which you address and discuss the questions and statements provided. Engage at least three scholarly sources and remember to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the READ and ATTEND sections for this unit in your essay. Follow APA guidelines to format your paper, including citing your sources and providing references.

Choose one of the following two questions

* Develop a long and detailed list of reasons why there has been long-standing and wide-spread persecution of Jews through history. Take time to organize your thoughts around key moments and movements in history you find critical to understand in order to sustain your argument. Also discuss the key differences between Reform and Orthodox Jews in 21st century America. How might these distinctions strengthen the Jewish community globally moving forward? What anti-Semitic attacks have these communities faced in the U.S. in the last five years and how do these reflect or stem from any of the reasons you named at the start of your essay. Conclude your essay with your own realizations as a result of writing this essay.

• Do research to identify a particular movement within Christianity which started within the past 200 years and explain its origin, distinctive beliefs, and its impact on modern Christendom. Then, consider one particular practice important within this movement you believe also influential in modern Christianity and vital to the faith of at least some believers. Provide a summary describing the practice - how it developed, and why it is significant in the lives of who keep this practice. Conclude your essay with your own realizations as a result of writing this narrative.
