Discussion: Jesus and Judaism
Explain Jesus' relationship to Judaism by answering the following questions:
1. Did Jesus "start out" Jewish? Was he born to a Jew? Was he raised as a Jew? Explain.
2. During Jesus' ministry he both said things and did things that made the Temple priests and scholars wonder how Jewish he was. Explain two or more things Jesus said or did that seemed to depart from orthodox Judaism. (Lots of options but hints: think about how he broke some mitzvot, expanded others, and about his view of them more generally).
3. Who said Jesus should die and why?
4. Opinion: In the end, do you think Jesus was still a Jew at his death? Why or why not?
