Development of the caste system

Assignment:

There is no doubt that the religions of Indian subcontinent are as culturally varied as the people themselves, but more interesting is the social impact the implementation of these religions have had on the Indian people and how they evolved through time.

Beginning with Brahmanism and the sacred Vedas, we see an overarching idea of reincarnation and the cycle of spiritual rebirth and the judgement of all powerful Gods. Brahmanism played a key part in the introduction and development of the caste system which is still prevalent in parts of India to this day.

Moving forward to 520 BCE, we see the development of Jainism which shares many similarities with Brahmanism except for one major facet: the replacement of Gods with rule of law.

The Jain teachings of Karma, or overall nonviolence, evolved over time into yet another new religion; Buddhism around 500 BCE.
