You learned about the development of policing in the United States. You learned about several key reform periods that have taken place throughout the service with a specific focus on three specific eras (political, professional, and community-oriented).
To help you understand these reform periods, you are going to explore the first national attempt to reform and improve policing and the delivery of services to communities. Following several high-profile corruption scandals, rising social tension, and riots, then President Johnson formed the President's Task Force on Police. The final report, published in 1967, held considerable information on the state of policing, specific issues and challenges, and key recommendations.
In this discussion, you will discuss the report, with a focus on the key issues and challenges facing police agencies at this time, how they came to exist, and what impeded many of those key recommendations from being implemented.
