Observational data is data that is collected through observing people, places or things. It can be qualitative, and sometimes it can be quantitative. When it's quantitative, reliability is checked via "inter-rater reliability", which is essentially when two (or more) people observe the same thing, with the same instrument, and then their answers are compared to see if they agree on what they each saw. If a measure is well developed, and operational definitions are clear (and raters trained well), they will agree at least 80% of the time. This week, you will practice collecting observational data.
