Probabilistic analysis of the musculoskeletal forces in the arm

In this assignment, you are tasked with developing a probabilistic model of the arm, to assess the influence of input variability on the predicted joint contact and muscle forces.

Requirements:

You are required to submit an excel spreadsheet (submitted electronically) containing your calculation of:

1. A deterministic solution of the predicted joint contact and muscle forces for entire range of motion

2. The range of joint contact and muscle forces as predicted from the Monte Carlo simulation at a flexion angle of 90 degrees

3. An assessment that sufficient number of Monte Carlo analyses have been performed to capture the range in the predicted forces.

4. An assessment of the task feasibility performed by comparing the calculated muscle stress with its admissible value.

5. An assessment of which parameter(s) have the greatest influence on the predicted joint contact force.

You are also required to submit a report (of approximately 10 A4 pages) that covers:

1. A summary of the deterministic results

2. A review of the Monte Carlo simulation results highlighting:
a. the range in the predicted muscle and joint contact forces
b. the most significant variables that influence these forces.

3. A discussion of how you assessed whether sufficient Monte Carlo trials had been performed

4. A review of potential limitations of this technique to more complex musculoskeletal models.
