2. Introduction
Within each state, the executive branch coordinates state-level homeland security initiatives. The governors of each state are the highest elected official for that state, and the governor, along with state administrative agencies, are in-charge of implementing homeland security policies and procedures during a state of emergency. Though each state has different bureaucratic responsibilities when implementing homeland security initiatives, the principal roles of the leaders and agencies are recurrent. In this activity you will explore state governors' roles and responsibilities when responding to a state emergency.
