IV. What is the effect of calcium looping retrofit on net power output?

V. What is the effect of calcium looping retrofit on specific CO2 emissions?

VI. What are the main sources of the efficiency penalty in calcium looping retrofit?

VII. What are the potential routes for improvement of the entire process performance?

TASK 2 -

One of the main challenges associated with the mature CO2 capture technologies is the parasitic load imposed on the power plant output. Carbonate looping is regarded as an emerging post-combustion that can reduce the efficiency penalty of the system. Its operating conditions are dependent on the kind of sorbent selected. In this assignment you should select the most suitable sorbent for carbonate looping for decarbonisation of natural gas combined cycle power plant. You should:

- identify the sorbents that can be used in carbonate looping process;

- estimate the efficiency penalty using the process model developed during the process modelling workshop;

- identify measures to improve the efficiency of the entire process;

- evaluate the applicability of the selected sorbents in real applications (i.e. their price, structural strength, availability).

In conclusion, you are expected to provide recommendations for the future research and implementation in the area of CCS.
