Problem:
In order to develop feasible approaches to address the issue you've identified in your Statement of Intent, you will need to draw on knowledge and frameworks from natural and social sciences. For example, if you chose shoreline restoration as a focus area for your SIP, you will need to do some research about the forces that are contributing to shoreline erosion, some of which are natural forces (such as storm surges) and some of which are related to human behavior (such as wetland destruction due to infrastructure development). Once you have identified the forces contributing to the problem, you need to work to understand them and how they are interrelated. In this assignment, you will start your research process by:
(1) Identifying a "model" initiative. This is an example of a real world strategy or initiative that others have implemented to address a problem similar to the one you have decided to focus on in Seaview. You may not want to appropriate or reproduce all of the aspects of this solution, but it could serve as a good "jumping off place" to help you develop a customized approach for Seaview. (2) Selecting and briefly annotating 8 credible resources that will help you to identify and/or understand the forces that are contributing to the sustainability problem you've chosen to focus on. These resources should include information about scientific (natural sciences such as biology, chemistry, physics, and geology; and social sciences such as psychology and sociology) concepts that help you understand your problem so that you can propose and evaluate potential solutions from an informed standpoint. You should identify high-quality sources. For tips see these optional links on how to evaluate source information as well as this link on finding and citing credible sources.
Instructions:
Part I: "Model" Initiative
Identify a real world "model" initiative where a person or group addressed an issue similar to the sustainability challenge you are planning to focus on for your project.
In at least one paragraph discuss the model initiative that you have identified. What was the problem? What strategy was used to address the problem? Was the strategy effective or not? If not, what would you recommend to have improved upon the initiative? How is the model initiative similar or different to your problem of focus for Seaview?
Include a list of sources that you used to learn about your model initiative; please paste links as plain text (URLs).
Part II: Annotated Bibliography
List 8 credible sources that are relevant to your sustainability initiative proposal (SIP) in proper APA7 format.
Annotate each resource by writing a short paragraph below the reference to summarize the main points of the article.
You should include a general overview of the paper, the main ideas presented, and why this article is relevant to your SIP.
Make sure to tie the resource back to your problem. What is the underlying science? How does the scientific concept discussed in the resource help you better understand your problem? Remember, this information will help you support and justify your proposed solutions.
