Executive Summary:
Our project plan aims to meet the need for a cybersecurity skills and testing lab for instructors and students. The establishment of a cybersecurity lab will give instructors and students a secure setting in which to practice and engage in ethical hacking. A keylogger, a form of ethical hacking, is an application software used to monitor and record keystrokes made on a computer device by the user. This software can be used to gather personal data on a target.. The problem that our project aims to solve is the potential for keylogging software to be used maliciously to steal sensitive information.
BlackArch will be the open source operating system that will be used, along with Windows, to build an environment for ethical hacking. Our software will be based on the pynput library in Python and will have the capability to monitor keyboard and mouse inputs. The impact our project will have is that it will set up students to build and improve their cybersecurity skills to apply to real world scenarios and jobs.
Conclusion
In this paper, a scheme is proposed to develop a cyber security lab to solve the lack of resources for students who want to build on their ethical hacking skills they have learned from lectures. Additionally, the solution ought to give students the option to further their professional goals such as being able to provide relevant projects implemented in the lab as experience. The project offers a comprehensive solution to the problem. It can also be extended to faculty to allow them to build on and discover new skills in their field. Moreover, the project has a positive impact on the University's security. This idea has the potential to be an efficient answer to the problem, and it will ensure that students are knowledgeable in how to keep their data safe and secure and practice real-world scenarios.
