The description of the scenario follows:
You are the person in charge of security for a high-risk/high-profile trial (it involves the abduction, rape, and murder of a young girl). The case has obviously generated an enormous amount of public interest and media attention. The news media is clamoring for photographs and interviews with the victim's family, the defendant, and the attorneys. The Judge is concerned about a mistrial and has ordered the parties involved not to discuss the case outside the courtroom. The judge has banned cameras and recording devices in the courtroom.
The case is emotionally charged and the victim's family is vehement in seeking revenge!
You are to develop a Court Security Plan for the high-risk/high profile trial scenario presented above. Your assessment document must cover, at a minimum, the following
1.The number of deputies and/or court officers needed to adequately staff the courthouse, inside and out, during the high-risk/high-profile trial with the parameters described in this unit, above.
2.The placement and specific duties of each of the deputies/court officers before, during, and after the trial.
3. How you, as the security manager for the courthouse, handle the gathering media and their zeal to get film footage, pictures, and interviews while maintain the dignity of the Court and honoring the trial judge's order?
4.What precautions will have to be taken in insure a safe and secure courtroom with respect to each of the following:
- The defendant
- The victim's family
- The defendant's family
- The news media
- The prosecution
5.What specials considerations will be necessary to provide for the following:
- Medical needs or emergencies
- Feeding of jurors and staff
- Housing
- Transportation
- Recesses
6.Identify any other concerns that should be addressed (i.e. evidence and movement of defendants and others within the courtroom).
